​The Woman King (2022) is a historical action-drama inspired by the true story of the Agojie, an all-female warrior unit that defended the West African kingdom of Dahomey in the 19th century. Directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood, the film stars Viola Davis as General Nanisca, who leads and trains the next generation of warriors to protect their kingdom from external threats.
